What are the essential biosecurity measures to control Salmonella and Campylobacter in the poultry farms ?

    These includes:

    1. Strategies to prevent and control wildlife, rodents, insects, unauthorized human visitors, and fomites (e.g., tools, feed trucks and farm equipment)

    2. Soil control. Contaminated soil in the house surroundings has been demonstrated to be an essential source of these pathogens.

    3. Cleaning and disinfection is one of the most important tools to avoid Salmonella and Campylobacter dissemination between flocks

    4. Staff practices (dipping boots changing the solution as much as possible, washing hands with soap prior to entering the broiler house and the use of coveralls and overshoes)

    5. Proper animal immunization of the animals (accurate vaccination programs, feed additives, water quality and animal welfare)

Thanks, what kind of products to use for rodents ? (what are the most efficient, the less efficient ones ? )

There are many commercially available active ingredients effective against rodents. Third generation anticoagulant rodenticides are highly effective. In addition, the animals do not die immediately when they ingest the bait, which makes other animals fall into the trap.

To ensure success, the most important thing is to combine chemical and physical pest control.

The chemical must be desirable and bound to the soil. In addition, it should be rotated to avoid resistance and should be changed in different formats (solid, liquid, foam, etc.).

Hello, do you preconise a double desinfection ( surface and airbourne) in case of salmonella infection in a shed or in a slaughter house?
