Outside access poses a challenge to the farming sector regarding both zoonotic and non-zoonotic diseases. However, society demands it, and therefore we have to be very demanding in establishing a strict biosecurity and management protocol.
We have tools today that we did not have 20 years ago to control these micro-organisms. However, there is no single way to do it. It combines good management and biosecurity, ensuring welfare and freedom from stress, boosting the immune system, and avoiding direct contact with animate or inanimate vectors that can transmit pathogenic micro-organisms.
